Allglass Facades has fabricated and fitted over 200 aluminium windows and doors for a purpose built extra-care housing scheme in Edgware, London.

Wood Court, Edgware is a purpose built extra care housing scheme providing high quality accommodation with full disabled access for elderly people. It comprises 39 self-contained, one-bedroom flats and a communal area to provide a central hub for the community, enabling them to enjoy a range of social activities.

Aluminium casement windows were specified by the main contractor for their thermal properties, weather tightness and sustainability. Their design allows the entire sash to pivot aside, providing a large opening as an escape route in the event of a fire.

Allglass Facades fabricated the 160 top hung casement aluminium windows from a profile which combines excellent thermal and weather performance with enhanced aesthetic appeal.

It features built-in trickle ventilators, restricted hinges and shootbolt multi-point locking. With a polyamide thermal barrier and multi-chamber design, windows and doors fabricated from this profile satisfy all regulations on energy efficiency including full compliance with Building Regulations Part L. The systems were finished in a durable RAL 7012 Basalt Grey polyester powder coating.

The 40 door and window combinations used on the contract were also fabricated from a complementary system. 50mm aluminium capped thermally broken curtain walling forms a bay on the ground, first and second floors. It is glazed in aluminium clad foam insulated panels and Low E units to the same specification as the windows with pressed aluminium flashing to the corners.

A spokesman for the main contractor said: ”Optimum use of available daylight and good outside views where an important consideration for this scheme. The high quality aluminium window system provided by Allglass met our durability, security and energy efficiency requirements.”
